Mermaid Island – Mermaid Island [LP]

Mermaid Island has been brewing chaos in theunderground LA punk scene since fall of 2022.Founded by Canadian vocalist, guitarist, andsongwriter Alex MacDonald, the band quickly becameknown for their high-octane performances. Based onbuilding and protecting the DIY community,Mermaid Island is about connecting with each otherin real life, and creating more space for charged, purposeful aggression. It was always about the shows. We have as muchfun playing for no one in our lockout as we do for apacked crowd. says MacDonald. The band solidifiedtheir presence in the LA scene before ever settingfoot in a studio. They tracked most of their debutalbum live off the floor in two days, holding onto thesame energy that keeps their shows magnetic.Mermaid Island is creating a space where people feelinspired to pick up their own instruments. We justwant to play shows with our friends so we canremember what joy feels like on this shit showplanet.Mermaid Islands sound blends high energy punkrock with early 2000s pop-punk, heavy east-coastCanadian influences, melodic vocals, and folk-tingedchord progressions.1.
